This post is dedicated to all proud users of Samsung Galaxy Young. In this post I am gonna show you how to install Custom ROMs on Galaxy Y easily.

Difference between Stock ROM and Custom ROM:

A stock ROM is the version of the phone’s operating system that comes with your phone when you buy it. Custom ROMs are nothing but Android OS which are heavily modded to give you awesome looks and amazing features. It is built by special android developers and you can find them at xda-developers.com

Why should you use Custom ROMs?

There are lots of reasons why you need to use Custom ROMs. Custom ROMs enables you to enjoy the full features of your device including Overclocking (google it if you don’t know what it means!). Custom ROMs are open source projects so you can expect faster updates. They provide better looks than the Stock ROM and also they increase your device’s speed and performance. Another useful feature is that it helps you to get rid of bloatwares and gain space on your device’s internal memory. Better Battery Backup is also an awesome feature of Custom ROMs.
Now lets come back to the topic. Here I am showing you how to install custom ROMs on Galaxy Y and I recommend not to try this method on any other devices although the steps are similar. You must root your device before installing any Custom ROMs!!
Custom ROMs are usually .zip files, you can download hundreds of them online( just search on google :P ). Here are two best Custom ROMs for Galaxy Y that I have tried: JellyBlast V3 and Hyperion.
Before installing anything just backup all your apps and contacts (use Titanium Backup app).

Steps to Install Custom ROMs on Galaxy Y:

  • Back Up all the important stuffs and Root your phone.
  • Download any Custom ROMs ( .zip file). (Recommended: JellyBlast V3 and Hyperion )
  • Place it on your SD card and not inside any other folder!
  • Switch off your device.
  • Now while its switched off, press Home+Power/Lock+Volume Up. This will boot your phone into Android Recovery. Here touch screen will not work so use volume buttons for navigation and home button for ok.
  • Select Wipe data and then Select “Update zip from SD card”.
  • Now navigate to the custom ROM file (.zip) and select it.
  • Let the installation finish and then press reboot system now.
  • All done! Now wait for the first boot as it normally takes around 3-5 minutes or longer!
